A.K.A. Progcore
前卫后硬核（Progressive Post-Hardcore）是一个子流派，与Pop Screamo一样，属于可被称为“后硬核第三浪潮”（ Third Wave Post-Hardcore）的流派。The Mars Volta由开创性的“后硬核第二浪潮”（Second Wave Post-Hardcore）乐队At the Drive-In的前成员组成，可能是让这一子流派曝光率最高的乐队。
硬核的出现可能是对前卫摇滚（Progressive Rock）的复杂性和夸张性的一种反击，但音乐流派不会永远是敌人。最终，硬核乐队开始从这一流派的“短/快/响”模式中分化出来，以至于他们不得不开始称之为后硬核（ Post-Hardcore），后来，后硬核乐队开始完全接受70年代前卫摇滚的风格，而这正是最初的80年代硬核乐队所拒绝的。到2000年代中期，前卫后硬核已成为一个成熟的子流派，这种声音至今仍在不断发展并影响着新的乐队。到了2010年代，前卫后硬核形成了一股全新的浪潮，其中许多乐队都与Dance Gavin Dance乐队吉他手Will Swan的厂牌Blue Swan Records签下了合约（他创造了Swancore一词来定义该厂牌旗下大多数乐队所采用的尖啸、高音区人声和科技感十足的旋律）。无论是变幻莫测的歌曲结构、复杂的音乐手法、戏剧化的唱腔，还是整体的宏大气势，2000年代后硬核的风格仍在悄然回归朋克音乐的前沿。
